A graduate of Boise State University, earning a BS in Nursing in 2003, I honed my nursing skills in Orthopedics, Cardiovascular Intensive Care, Travel nursing and in 2009, a few years after the birth of my son, I decided to follow my passion and pursue a career in Maternal-Child Nursing. With the desire to broaden my bedside skills in Labor and Delivery, I trained as a Doula and Childbirth Educator, opening the door to adult education for expecting families. I quickly learned that assisting mothers in lactation was a natural fit and fell in line with my love to educate.
Certified as an IBCLC in 2012, I worked with new mothers in a local hospital on Postpartum, NICU and Pediatrics in-patient units and in the outpatient setting for 14 years. I resigned from the hospital in December 2023 to pursue private practice and continue to grow and support families in the comfort of their homes.
As a hospital Lactation Consultant I was responsible for curriculum and program development for the Lactation Department including the prenatal breastfeeding class for expecting parents, staff perinatal breastfeeding education in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I facilitated the Breastfeeding Mothers' weekly support group and served as a mentor to co-workers, new employees and future lactation consultants. As I grow HomeGrown Lactation, I offer breastfeeding classes in the community and frequent the NAPS Newborn and Parent Support group sponsored by the Emmett Early Learning Collaborative.
In 2016, I joined the Idaho Breastfeeding Coalitions Board and have played an instrumental role in the planning and facilitating the Annual Idaho Breastfeeding Summit in 2017- 2025. With enthusiasm and great vision for the Coalitions presence in the State of Idaho, I was elected Vice Chair of the IBC in 2018, and with great pride held this office until September of 2024. I am honored to be awarded with the Jane Grassley Excellence in Breastfeeding Award at the 2021 Idaho Breast feeding Summit .
In my free time, you will find me with my family on our small acreage farm in Emmett, Idaho, Pattie’s Pastures. Nurturing our menagerie of animals, with my hands deep in garden soil, growing herbs for teas and salves, or soaking up the elements exploring Idaho’s wild lands on ski’s, in a raft, or good old-fashioned hiking boots.
